ILFU Book Talk with Deborah Levy [cancelled]

Voertaal: Engels

The Book Talk with Deborah Levy has been cancelled. Marja Pruis’s eulogy will be published on our platform www.ilfu.com

Deborah Levy writes prose, plays and poetry. She grew up in South Africa, but moved to England at a young age. Her initial work was for the stage, but she soon expanded to writing poetry, short stories and novels like Hot Milk (Bloomsbury, 2016) and The Man Who Saw Everything (Hamish Hamilton, 2019). She has won countless awards, and has been nominated for the Booker Prize three times. Levy’s latest work is a three-volume autobiography in which she examines her life during her 40s, 50s and 60s – not in retrospect, but amid ‘the storm of life’ as she describes it herself. The first volume, Things I Don’t Want to Know, was published in 2015 as a feminine perspective and response to George Orwell’s essay ‘Why I Write’. It was followed by The Cost of Living in 2018. The third volume, Real Estate, revolves around everything involved in finding a new home. The Dutch translation by Astrid Huisman and Roos van de Wardt will appear in November this year.

Maartje Laterveer will interview Deborah Levy following a paean to Levy by writer, critic and Editor of De Groene Amsterdammer Marja Pruis.
