About the Academy

For many years, Het Literatuurhuis has organised courses on reading the classics of world literature and poetry and creative writing. After the 2019 edition of the ILFU literature festival, these courses were combined to form the ILFU Academy.

During the courses, participants can delve into acclaimed international masterpieces. Previous courses have dealt with authors like Proust, Camus, Yeats, Dostoyevsky and Pessoa, as well as themes such as feminism, dystopian novels, or reading according to the philosophy of Hannah Arendt. The ILFU Academy also offers the opportunity to improve and enhance your writing skills through courses on writing poetry and prose.

The courses are taught by experienced and inspiring lecturers, such as Professor Emeritus of Modern French Literature Maarten van Buuren, Prof. Peter de Voogd, journalist and literary critic Dieuwertje Mertens and philosopher Hans Achterhuis. The Writing Poetry course by poet Ingmar Heytze is extremely popular among poetry lovers. Renowned authors like Manon Uphoff teach courses on writing stories and prose at the ILFU Academy as well.

The courses are held in corona proof locations in Utrecht (for exact locations, see catalogue).
